information​​
 

I am a multi-instrument brass performer and teacher with over 30 years experience of playing all styles of music – classical, jazz, brass band, big band, orchestra, pop/soul. I am also a busy conductor working mainly with primary school band programs such as Normanhurst West Public School, Pennant Hills Public School and Hornsby Heights Public School. Aside from teaching and conducting, I enjoy performing in community ensembles, musical theatre shows, and arranging music for young bands and ensembles.

I began my musical journey by starting on the trombone in 1986 (aged 11) in Mansfield, Notts, England. I quickly progressed through the ABRSM grades and took part in a large range of bands and orchestras in the Nottinghamshire area. I branched out to playing the tuba before leaving school and then moved to London for further study. Playing euphonium, trumpet and sousaphone came later and I spent 16 years in London performing in a huge range of big bands, orchestras, brass ensembles and pop/soul bands. As well as recording and arranging work I also created my own successful band management company aimed at providing live music for private and corporate events. I was also fortunate enough to be in the original 2009 lineup for the jazz/soul/RnB brass band 'Hackney Colliery Band' with which I toured all over the UK at many festivals and events between 2009 and 2011.

Since moving to Sydney in 2011 with my wife and 2 children I have concentrated more on teaching rather than performing but I am very active with Sydney bands including Castle Hill RSL North West Wind Ensemble, with which I was a featured soloist in 2026 performing Brubeck's Concerto for Bass Trombone. With NWWE I have been part of many championship winning performances in "Open A Grade", including the Australian National Championship title in 2023 and NSW State title in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. 

 

I also regularly perform on bass trombone or tuba with Holroyd Brass Band, with which I was a featured soloist in 2024 performing "Capriccio" by Steven Verhelst. ​

I have a valid WWC certificate and Public Liability Insurance (PLI). Documents are available for reference if required.
